My idiot box’s obituary…

Communication is the yearning to be heard and to understand a potentially important message.

It has become habitual for today’s media to not disseminate hard valuable content. It’s pathetic. As a matter of grave concern, it’s humiliating to see ONLY sob stories and stories that have a lot of controversy associated with them. Sure, conflicts make good viewing, but not at the cost of productive content.
We have more DEVIL’S ADVOCATES and THE BIG FIGHTS because as Indians, we love to tear each other apart with the pretentious right bestowed upon us that we are way better than the commons. No show discusses real issues and never is the topic given importance. Agenda setters are ever so predominant. What is important is,

Who speaks the most?
Who kicks most ass?

Also, why are we having analysts to analyze every small bit of information? There’s so much of other content that can be covered rather than these ‘experts’ getting a platform to market themselves. I mean, Its ridiculous! Why is it that we don’t have shows like these in the B.B.C or the C.N.N?

I’ll tell you why…
Because, they are not bothered about who generates more volume, they are more concerned with the value of the content they bring across to the viewers. The Indian media has lost the plot and Aaj tak is a particular channel which is helping the cause with FEATURE stories like:

“The invisible ghost who drove the car!!”

WOW!!!
And we love it. We love to know more about these stories. And, that’s exactly why Aaj tak has a superior viewership compared to NDTV and CNN. Sensationalizing stories is Aaj tak’s forte. As a saving grace; you have to delve into the newspapers to get a little productive information.
Out goes my T.V.

TV & Newspapers are interested only in their viewership and readership counts and not on what is needed for the reader as on date. The quality of news has lost its charms. Any way at tomes there are some news but we have to struggle to locate.

Keep writing and your writing skills are improving.

The influence of the media can be quite over-powering especially when you allow yourself to be carried away by the content dished out. Sensationalism is their usp since its all about one-upmanship in the viewer market. It calls for a judicious approach whilst ingesting and digesting the verbal and visual feast. The education lies in gleaning perspectives other than our own; the knowledge lies in filtering such information to rational levels.

Media debates on important events such as election results, budget highlights, social empowerment, environment, etc are worth spending some time on. If the rest is chaff, migrate to something more entertaining. Last night I came across a heated discussion on NDTV about whether Mayawati is justified in errecting statues of herself all over her state. I quickly migrated to something more interesting on Star movies.

See what I mean? Therefore, think twice before you want to throw that idiot box out!

Ciao until then,

You have a point. But,i think to an certain extent its us.
Tell me, who would heed a news or any content for that matter until it is a bit sensationalised.
Media is giving the people what it wants.
We need everything to have that garam masala you know, human nature after all.
In addition, Media is now market driven. More than anything they want their TRP ratings.

True. Sensationalising stories and altering the minds of the viewer by giving the viewer what it wants makes the media hyped and loose it's ethics. That's precisely why news channels are no more valid .
